By creating wines from the outstanding grapes of Washington's Columbia Valley, Columbia Crest Winery quickly became one of the most acclaimed wineries in America.

Located on the rise of the Columbia River, Columbia Crest vineyards capture warmth and sunlight, providing grapes with flavor and intensity.  Our vineyards lie at the same latitude as the world's most famous wine regions, France's Bordeaux and Burgundy.  An unusual complement of geography and climate makes the Columbia Valley, in its microclimates, ideal for a wide range of wine grapes.

The fertile Yakima Valley of the Pacific Northwest is number one in the world for the production of sweet cherries and a top producer of berries.  Just the right amount of rain, coupled with our well-draining volcanic soil, produces large crops bursting with flavor.

Imagine the tantalizing taste of  dried cherries and other fruits, smothered in rich chocolates and tumbled until smooth in old-world copper kettles.  There's no better way to say "you're special!"  And Chukar Cherries of Prosser, WA offers these and many other fruit and cherry delights.  For more information you can visit their website.  Just click on the Chukar to the right.

Hogue Wines are made from Grapes grown on the family farm in Washington's Columbia Valley, and from those purchased under long-term contracts with the region's top growers.  Each location has its own soil, climate and exposure, and produces grapes that are unique to the site.  Hogue winemakers thus have a wide range of flavor, aroma and natural acid characteristics with which to work, and use appropriate cellar techniques to bring out the best in each vineyard lot.  Discover the Hogue family, farm, wine and recipes at their official website.

Perfect Harmony, a fine wine action and dinner benefiting the Mid-Columbia Symphony, will be held Saturday, June 2, 2001 at the DoubleTree Hotel in Pasco, Wash. from 6:30 - 9 pm.  The Tri-Cities Enological Society and the Mid-Columbia Symphony are sponsoring the event to benefit the symphony.

Guests will be able to bid on fine wines and specialty items donated by more than 50 wineries, private collectors and other businesses throughout the Pacific Northwest.  Among the items to be auctioned are large-format bottles and cases from award-winning wineries such as Leonetti Cellar, Andrew Will Winery and Bookwalter Winery.

Guests will enjoy hors d’oeuvres and a champagne reception upon arrival.  A six-course dinner will feature wines from the event’s sponsors.   Musicians from the Mid-Columbia Symphony will perform throughout the evening.

“The opportunity for people to acquire one-of-a-kind donated wines and other specialty items will help sustain the symphony’s artistic and educational programs in our community,” said John Crook, event chair.  The symphony performs a concert series each year with local and national guest artists, hosts the Young Artist Competition, performs for various community events and is collaborating with Fluor Hanford and other sponsors this year on a community musical instrument drive for local schools.

“Exceptional wines, distinctive Northwest cuisine and live orchestral music are among the finer things we enjoy in Eastern Washington,” Crook said.  “Perfect Harmony brings these elements together for one special evening.”

Tickets for Perfect Harmony are $75.  They can be purchased from the symphony office at 1407 Goethals, Richland, 943-6602; River House, 708 Jadwin, Richland, 946-3349 or the DoubleTree Hotel in Pasco, 2525 N. 20th St., 547-0701.

Wines and other items can be donated throughout May.  Contact John Crook at 943-0500 or jbcrook@earthlink.net for a contribution form and to arrange delivery. The Mid-Columbia Symphony serves area residents by providing live instrumental performances of classical and popular music by an orchestra of paid musicians.   The Tri-Cities Enological Society is dedicated to the enjoyment of, and education about, wines from around the world.
